    Artist History
Dragonfly Jones recorded their first demo, Reach, September 30th, 1993 in Riverside. Dragonfly Jones sold 500 cassette copies of Reach in one month. Falling had made its way on to 96.7 KCAL even when Dragonfly Jones was told they didn’t fit KCAL’s format. Then the radio station asked if the band would play at Rocktoberfest, KCAL’s outdoor festival. The University of Redlands, The University of California, Riverside’s The Barn, Copesitic Café in San Bernardino, Showcase Theater in Corona, and Carlos O’Brien’s in Riverside are just some of the places Dragonfly Jones played regularly. Dragonfly Jones returned to the studio to record a full-length album in July 1995. 500 cassette copies of Neverneverland were made. Sold at the University of Redlands and Rocktoberfest, now sponsored by X103.9. Anytime, Anywhere made its way on the airwaves via 96.7 KCAL and X103.9. San Bernardino’s public access television station, Channel 33, had Dragonfly Jones play live in the studio and interviewed the band for a show called The County Beat. 88.3 KUCR also began playing Dragonfly Jones and even had them play live in the studio in January 1996. Dragonfly Jones was looking for a manager. Playing shows in Hollywood at The Whisky A Go-Go, The Blue Room, and The Coconut Teaser led to playing along the side of Figueroa St. in LA during the LA Marathon. Runners packed the street and cheered as they ran past the band, as Jerry chanted “Don’t stop,” between songs. Being different was key. Opening for Dave Wakling (General Public and The English Beat) at a Greenpeace Rally at The Hub-Westminster, packing shows at the local bar (Pitruzzelos-Riverside), and playing The Metro in Riverside, Dragonfly Jones found themselves growing musically and started being compared to Queen, The Pixies, and James. Renee Felix asked the band to let him release Rise, Dragonfly Jones’ ritualistic closing song, on his 909 sampler. After hearing the song, Dragonfly Jones was approached by Hollywood Records. Unimpressed with the label rep., the band played another show with Dave Wakling, along with Gene Loves Jezebel and Everclear at X103.9’s Rocktoberfest. Now practicing at The Copesitic Café-San Bernardino, Dragonfly Jones decided to work on new material and take a break from playing live. Dragonfly Jones returned to the studio in September 1998 and recorded a four song demo, Freaky Baby, showing the bands diversity and maturity. Andy Cleaves approached the band and told them he was starting an independent label (Cleaves Entertainment). In December 1998, they signed with Cleaves Entertainment. Dragonflyjones was anxious to record a full-length album, but due to time and finical constraints Cleaves Entertainment and Dragonflyjones nullified their contract. Dragonflyjones was still playing shows monthly at Godfathers in Chino with an occasional show at The Whisky A Go-Go-Hollywood, and Private Parties when they met Ed Lopes- Photographer, electrician, and owner of Helmco Industries. Ed was having Dragonflyjones play his company parties, and wondered why the band didn’t have a manager. Believing in the band and watching them take control of the audience everywhere they played; Ed asked the band if he could manage the group.
