Press Reviews
Well here's one for you. I continually shout for female singers in Progressive rock and I've got two here. Sandy Leigh, former member of Solstice and Jill Arroway from a more classical background. Together they have been working on the soon to be released album "Butterfly Effect". These 2 tracks will appear on the album but as new updated versions, so all you collectors out there should grab this single while you can as these will be rare tracks one day.I had not heard Sandy's vocals since the 1984 Solstice album "Silent Dance" and not surprisingly her voice on "It Doesn't Scan" has matured considerably, i.e. she has lost the high Jon Anderson style delivery (well on this track she has). This is a lively song, rock yes, with a touch of a progressive folk (a bit like Solstice or Legend without guitars or drums). Just when you think you've got it pinned down it shoots off into some nifty keyboard soloing, but who cares which category it falls into, this is timeless music."I Am Me" on the other hand is a deep emotional track, a haunting and beautiful piece of music, almost orchestral or maybe New Age till the volume and pace pick up. It then turns into something Steve Cochrane might compose. Apart from the odd line or two this is an instrumental track and is quite inspiring. These two tracks are timeless, they cross many boundaries, at times not progressive but if the whole album is as good as this then maybe we could be in for something special from Double Helix especially with these two tracks becoming newer versions.Eurorock (European Progressive Rock Reviews)http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/floyd/766/ |
