Artist History When I Was a Teenager . . . began in October 1999 when I decided I wanted to record some of the songs I had been writing. I asked my roommate Aaron if he would help me out, and we went to work on his 8 track. Aaron played drums, bass, and some other guitar parts on a few of the songs. Ryan, who was a friend of Aaron’s, moved down from Boston and ended up helping out with some extra guitar parts. In December of 1999 we finished the 10-song recording and had it pressed (available for purchase on our merchandise page). I played a few shows in NC with my friend Matt Templeton (reinforce, until today) over Christmas break. The shows were fun, but guitar and drums just didn’t cut it live. So when we all got back to school (Middle Tennessee State University), I asked Aaron and Ryan if they wanted to start playing with me live. My other roommate Alex offered to play bass. Our friend Luke who we met through a Bible study agreed to play keyboards/accordion and thus the current roster was complete and When I Was a Teenager became an official band.So we played our fist show together in Batesville Arkansas with Cool Hand Luke after about three practices. We got very good responses despite our lack of practice. We came back home, wrote some more songs and played some local shows in and around Nashville, on the bill with bands like Discount and Very Secretary.We are continuously writing new material and have begun to incorporate electric guitars. Our musical influences include Joan of Arc, American Football, Bright Eyes, Piebald, Pedro the Lion, and Jimmy Eat World. We have big plans, so keep your eyes open!----greg
