Artist History
The date was January 11, 1995. It was a cold rainy night. And a terrible noise arose from the cane fields.Spank The Monkey was born. The Band was started by Lindle Romero and three members of The Andy Smith Band, Heath Ransonnet,Hawley Joe Gary III, and Chris Hare. They had the desire to rock... on their own terms. There were manyrehearsals...3 of them. They were ready. The first gig took place. They sucked...BAD. There was morerehearsal. The second gig took place. They sucked...even worse. From this they learned a valuable lesson.Spank the Monkey should never rehearse. And we never have. The music played was mostly covers. Played for a desire for one thing...free beer. The band continuedtrudging through the bayous. Along the way they lost their bass player- Lindle-to dance music artist Stevie B. But he still remained an active force in the band. His temporary replacement was super funk master Bobby Boudreaux. The next band tragedy was the loss of guitarist Chris Hare. He had the desire to enrich his mind by pursuing a masters degree in music. He was replaced by Chris Boaz who was chosen because the other members were unable to learn a new name. Soon afterwards they decided it would be fun to write some music with Heath’s brother Kristyan..So (and this is where it gets complicated) Heath, Joe, Lindle, Chris and Kristyan got together and wrote some songs. Later the songs were recorded...and sat on the shelf for a year. Sometime in there it was decided that a more permanent replacement was needed for Lindle, so they hired Blaine Bearb to take his place. Later the band decided that the only way the CD would be finished was if they did it themselves. So they began mixing the CD, but before it was finished Planet Radio got a copy of some of the songs and began playing Sweet Daisy on the radio. The band rushed to finish the CD and it has sold over 5000 copies.Spank The Monkey toured non stop over two years and began working on material for a new CD. As the band began working on new material it became clear that Blaine did not share the same artistic ideas as the rest of the members and he left the band before they began recording the new CD. He was replaced by Joel Cooper who joined after the album was completed. Since then, the new CD, White Trash Lullabies, has sold nearly 2000 copies. After performing nearly 325 shows a year for the past 5 years Chris couldn’t take not having a life beyond “show biz” and retired to a retirement home for musicians in Texas. Joel then moved to his original instrument, guitar, and Sean Kaiser took over the bassist position. The four musicians (Heath, Joe, Sean and Joel) have been working on new material and feel they have the recipe for “A**-POUNDING ROCK-N-ROLL.” |
