Artist description
There once was a time when the mere thought of a song by Stevie Wonder or Sly and the Family Stone would bring impromptu smiles to our faces. It was a time when we could rely on new artists to emerge with beautiful, new songs that caressed the heart, moved the soul and lifted the spirit.
Today, it seems, these occurrences are no more than a myth, evidenced only by the recordings that remain. Now is a time when the computer age is defining who we are and what we hear, as it reduces R&B music to interchangeable vocal groups using repetitive beats and lyrics that create a void where creativity once existed. It is time to fill the gap between "then" and "now" with a new Rhythm & Blues attitude, matched with live instruments and lyrics that return us to the days of music for the soul. Now is the time for Mothers Favorite Child.
As a live collective, the purpose of Mothers Favorite child is to not only recall the roots of R&B, but to transcend the past and present face of the genre. As a concept, the purpose of Mothers Favorite Child is to serve as a beautifully intuitive example of what music is supposed to feel like. The true spirit of Soul and R&B music must speak through every movement of its musicians and vocalists. It must thrive within the lyrics and melodies.
Mothers Favorite Child is here to keep an unspoken promise to invoke this spirit and take it to a level unseen. We invite you to come along for the journey . . . . . |

Paris Toon is the lyrical mastermind behind Mothers Favorite Child, while also being the producer and musical director. Even while wearing so many "hats", his calmness and composure is never stirred. Paris started out as a hip-hop producer in the mid 90's. He has done production and remix work for many projects. His influences range from Rakim and Curtis Mayfield to Sly Stone, Prince and Stevie Wonder. These influences make themselves evident in his production and many of the lyrics he writes. With these inspirational forces in tow, he set out on the mission to push Mothers Favorite Child to the front of the music lines. Paris is the binding force of Mothers Favorite Child. His passion and "full speed ahead" attitude make it possible for his musicians to focus on the most important thing, the music. Paris seems to have an instinctive ability to spot the uniqueness of a musician. The pairing of his eloquent prose with the exceptional musicians in mothers favorite child was no accicent. What may have appeared to be a random hand-picking of musicians actually serves as an example of Paris' heartfelt intuition. This exquisite combination of intuition and raw talent is the very essence of Mothers Favorite Child. |
