Artist History
Musicians: Mick Lee (guitar & vocals) Sean Moir (guitar & vocals). History: Mick & Sean first met in 1994. "We had talked about our ideas and music, promising to get together at some time but our paths weren't to cross until much later" said Mick. Mick and Sean have been writing and rehearsing together in the Swindon, England area since January 1998. They now have three albums worth of wholly original material. Influences: Mick and Sean's musical influences are varied but close enough to compliment their own individual styles. Influences are many but mainly drawn from the likes of Hendrix, Captain Beefheart, XTC and P J Harvey. Needless to say the music is a little unusual. Mick: "The biggest problem we've had is finding a suitable rhythm section and we desperately need either a bass player or keyboards". "We recently submitted one of our songs to the ISA (International Songwriting Association), where the assessor in London recommended that we should immediately start promoting it. Hopefully this year with the band line up completed we can concentrate on gigging and writing more material. John Peel has recently received a demo of ours which was recorded earlier this year." |

Group Members
Mick Lee and Sean Moir form the core of the unit. Further permanent members have proved difficult to come by but Mick and Sean are prepared to wait for the right people. "We have found that with some people, if the attitude is not right, if your heart is not in the music, it can be better to take a wide berth." said Sean. |

Press Reviews
Excerpts from Swindon Evening Advertiser - 31st May 1999. Odd tuning and the desire to play around with sound formed the basis of a vibrant new Swindon band, who have already notched up enough songs to fill two albums. Majick Word is made up of three experienced musicians, who have all played in different bands, but have one common desire; to get the right sound, the special sound that makes them different. They are hoping that Radio One's John Peel will pick up their songs for his play list. "He has got a demo of ours which we recorded earlier this year", said Sean Moir, guitarist and singer. A real feather in Majick Word's cap is a recommendation from the ISA (International Songwriting Association). "The Assessor in London said that we should immediately start promoting our songs" said Mick, guitar and vocals. Sean and Mick actually met at college a number of years ago. Their paths crossed again and they started experimenting with tunes. But they needed a percussionist and along came Marco Ribeiro in answer to their advertisement. "We asked for a percussionist and got a drummer" said Sean, "but he is so flambouyant and has been likened to a young Keith Moon." Marco fitted in immediately adding that extra magic to give the band its unique sound. "I could feel the vibe and it made me give it some stick." said Marco. He also took to percussion like a duck to water. "I am first a drummer but I enjoy playing rhythm, it is my strong point." he added. Reproduced with the kind permission of Flicky Harrison |
