Artist History
In April of 1990, Jerry recorded a song he
wrote and produced titled 'Against The Law' at
a recording studio in Detroit. A month later,
Trey 'The D.J.' Alexander and Johnny D. of the
popular radio station 93Q, tested the song on
their ?Love It or Shove It? show. Over one
thousand (1,000) callers phone in to rate the
song: 85% loved it! That was the beginning of
Jerry's solo career as a recording artist,
although his musical career started long
before that.
To date, Jerry has been seen and heard on
numerous radio and television talk shows and
print interviews throughout the United States.
His music is being heard on television, radio
and in nightclubs in Philadelphia, Charlotte,
Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Milwaukee, Atlanta,
Seattle, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Columbus,
Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Houston, St. Louis,
Hong Kong, Macedonia and London, just to
name a few.
With his 1994 release of his CD 'HERE TO
STAY', Jerry proved that he is one of the most
talented artists to emerge into the recording
industry. Cuts like 'Prisoner (Of Luv)', 'U R
Mine', 'Against The Law' and 'Afunkysideofme',
received rave reviews from music critics and
radio program directors.
On his second CD...'THE LUV ZONE'
(recorded at Angel Baby Studios), Jerry shows
his versatility in a sexier/seductive side. The
flavor of this CD ranges from a feeling of being
in a 'dark' film to angelic/classical sounds to
high energy 'house' and R&B mixes.
TYAD Records released for radio and retail,
his first single from the new CD titled...'I Like
The Way'. It is a combination club dance
record with a slick 'urban & Jamaican' feel.
The second single, 'Da Southern Zone'
(released in March of 2000) has taken the CD
on the next level. A strong Urban/R&B cut with
an interesting 'hook' is what makes this single
HOT!. The single was released to 25 of the top
record pools in the United States. Without any
effort, 'Da Southern Zone' hit the charts hard
out of nowhere.
Jerry also is a martial artist and a personal
weightlifting trainer. Along with everything else
(if there isn't enough to do), Jerry is also
interested in doing action films as an actor. At
6 feet 2 inches tall and 200 lbs., he would be a
good candidate for roles that feature an actor
being physical.
At age six, Jerry started playing drums,
studying under his uncle, jazz great, Al
Johnson. After five years of hard work, it was
felt Jerry was ready for live performances. It
was then that he started performing with his
mother, Jean Holden. Throughout the 70's,
Jerry played mainly jazz as a drummer with his
mother?s group and jazz-fusion with a couple
of other bands that he helped form. His big
influences at the time were jazz drummers
Billy Cobham and Lenny White, bassist
Stanley Clarke and the group 'Return To
Forever'.
As with these drummers, Jerry always
experimented with poly-rhythms and odd time
signatures when he was writing his music
and performing live.In the early to mid 80's,
Jerry?s focus went to r&b/pop music. He felt
that with his jazz influences, he could come up
with some interesting rhythms for people to
dance to.
At this point in his career, his musical
influences were Prince (The Artist), Jackie
Wilson, James Brown, 'Tears For Fears' and
the British groups 'Go West' and 'ABC'.
Imagine someone with all those influences
from jazz to fusion to pop to funk having to sit
down and come up with some music for
himself.Listening to Jerry's newest release,
'The Luv Zone', you really get a feel for what is
inside his head. Although he doesn't sound
like any of his favorite artists, he does
combine a lot of the style of music he loves. |
