Artist History
Factors of 6 was Started in the summer of 1999 when happily married rock and roll sweethearts Noah and Holly Butler’s age old flier was finally answered by Matt Griffin, soon-to-be drummer for as many bands as anybody in Bloomington, Indiana should care to drum for (OlO [AudioInformationPhenomena Records & Trattoria/Polystar Records] and the Unstable Ensemble [with Jason Bivins of the JB3]). The trio started playing together and wrote a full set’s worth of songs. The first show was a lake party seen by only a few dozen music lovers and, by the end of the evening, an equal amount of local law enforcement officials. Multiple choice band name ballots were handed out and tallied (email proxy votes were also counted), naming the collective as “Factors of 6” for the first time. Sadly, the police officers in attendance refused to take part in the democratic process, so their opinions on the naming of the band were not reflected in the final decision. Soon after this historic first show, the band wrote a couple of new tunes far better than the previous 8, said “screw it, let’s start over,” and scraped the initial set of songs (except for one, "Bedtime for Billy & the Clone-a-saurus" which was seriously re-worked with all new drum and bass lines). And thus it was about 6 months later before anybody actually heard anything from Fo6. Once the new set was done the band immediately started getting regular gigs at Bloomington’s best rock and roll hotspot, Second Story. Since this, they’ve also played the IU college station WIUS with Aloha, and recorded a full length album of ‘the good songs’ called Taking Credit for the Work of Betty Simeingon (which is, in fact, a rather obscure and convoluted Simpsons' reference). Each day spent on the recording was met with outstanding sunny weather and clear skies, which is exceptional considering that it was all done in the otherwise blustery month of January. This phenomenon (known as the FoWeather Effect) was so omnipresent as to transmogrify skies that, when Noah would pick Matt up from work, were rainy and grey into beautiful picnic conditions over the course of the 42 minute drive to the Cloverdale recording site. Factors of 6 is now looking for a label to release this homemade hi-fi masterwork. |
