Artist History
the Elvis Diet is an Oldschool Punk band formed in 1990, at a time when bad heavy metal ruled the airways. The Elvis Diet started out as a jam night band playing punk songs no one at the time was covering. We were playing Sex Pistols, Pixies, Dickies and Ramone songs. Due to the overwhelming response, we became a full time band working on original punk music. We played mostly Northwest Indiana and Chicago, including Angelos, Double Door, Riviera Theater, and Club Stadola and released two self financed CD's "the Elvis Diet", and "Gravity Furnace". Between 93 - 95 we were setting attendance records at about every venue we performed. We had a blast, made some cash but never lured a lucrative record deal. I know, this is the story of about every band. About 96 the alternative/ punk scene in Chicago peaked and the market was way oversatuated. To avoid becoming the fat bloated Vegas Elvis we decided to call it a day in 97. Steve, Kerry and Jack later reformed musically with the surf band "the Cocktail Preachers". Surf Music another relatively obscure musical artform. Avoiding mainstream music again. Check us out at www.philx.com/cocktailpreachers/ |
