Artist History
About three years ago Elizabeth Harper picked up a guitar and quickly developed a talent for intimate, uncontrived, pop songwriting. Her music draws from various influences including Elliott Smith and the Smiths. She is a rising star in the prodigious lower Manhattan music scene that has recently spawned a slew of successful acts.
Though she only began performing publicly in early 2000, she was performing at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom and had a monthlong residency at the Mercury Lounge by 2001, and soon after she mounted a successful tour of England. Along the way she has performed with a diverse collection of performers including current radio fave and chart topper Vanessa Carlton, 90's hit-maker Jill Sobule, successful Indie acts such as and Paul Banks of Interpol and the Moldy Peaches and most recently legendary Smith’s guitarist -Johnny Marr.
Born and raised in LA, Elizabeth traveled around Europe before deciding to pursue acting at UC Berkeley. After graduation, she was invited to perform with the WOW theater troupe based in NYC, so she moved to Manhattan. But after arriving she began writing songs and posted a few 4 track recordings on her website. These songs garnered so many positive responses from all over the world that Elizabeth decided to include a band. Soon she was heavily involved with the music scene, collaborating with local musicians Parker Kinderd and Mick Grondahl, (ex-Jeff Buckley members). Elizabeth's current band includes ace guitarist Scott Rosenthal who lends a jangly pop sensibility to the compositions. Armed with smart lyrics and a silky voice, Harper has assembled a wonderful collection of songs that are overflowing with passion, poetry, and wit.

Press Reviews
"Harper exudes charm, a wicket wit and fine pop sensibility. What bot me hooked was the voice. Hauntingly beautiful, iy glides from aching (on Sedative) to sultry (Accidental Flirt) to exuberant (Don Juan)." Smiths Magazine, London
"Elizabeth Harper is one of the most interesting young musical artists to surface in recent years in the lower Manhattan scene. With a voice that of times recalls a young Chrissie Hynde in it's softer moments, Harper set's her clever insightful lyrics to haunting melodies using templates, ranging from traditional folk to dreamy Velvet Underground style rock."
-David McGee, Author of "Go Cat Go, The Life and Times of Carl Perkins, The King of Rockabilly, formerly of Rolling Stone
"Harper has an enticing voice, great melodies, and solid songwriting with the occasional arty-quirky bits. By herself her stuffs a tad melancholy and delicate a la Chan Marshall and Elliott Smith. With her band the pop's more bubbly with a slight spice of 80's Brit-pop (The Cure, The Smiths) thrown in. (Bosler)

"One of the best folk-friendly females playing this silly "Corporate Music Jack-off" fest
-Village Voice, "Your Guide to the Best of CMJ"
"Harper is a talented songwriter, with a very fine voice. She is also the most upbeat performer of melancholy tunes you may ever hear. Unless you're paying close attention, you'll find yourself bopping and tapping to songs about heartache, pain, and other assorted miseries...but you should have a good time.(Aber)"
