Artist History Some people are born to this world knowing what their calling is from the very start. A good example of that is Annica. Growing up in a small village in northern Sweden (pop. 1,500) she began yodeling folk melodies for her parents at age 7. Singing came quite natural to this Swedish native. Her mother was a vocalist and her father a drummer, so the family home was filled with music. "I remember I'd put my Mom and Dad on the sofa and sing just for them," recalls Annica. "Friday and Saturday nights. I loved Streisand, Franklin, Warwick - nothing but American singers. At age 12 she landed an opportunity to sing on national TV. Little did she know that this particular TV performance - which she quotes was "just for fun" - would lead to her first recording contract. Her first album was released at age 15, and by the age of 17 she found herself touring the countries of Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Germany, where thousands of rabid fans flocked to see the teen star on 'Annica Friendship Day.' Her second Japanese record had made her an overnight sensation. With a style fashioned in the States, it wasn't long before the singer started visiting the U.S. on a regular basis. These visits brought her to work with many American songwriters and producers including songwriter Sam Dees (Houston, Knight), Jeffery Cohen (Santana,Aretha Franklin). Then she hooked up with Grammy Award Winning producer Narada Michael Walden who immediately saw the potential in this Swedish singer/songwriter. "I had always admired his work, so it was a dream come true to be able to collaborate with him," she says. Recently Annica has spent 7 weeks at #1 on Billboard Talentnet as well as being awarded 'Artist of the Week'.This led to a performance on the "Jenny Jones show" where she performed the song "No Matter live! Annicas latest single "Give Myself Away" shot to #7 on the MP3.com TOP 40 chart shortly after its release.
