Press Reviews
Two years ago Karma was hitting the heavy rotation on CD-93 and playing Monterey. Now she's back with a new album under her belt. It's obvious that Karma has been listening to her late '70s records for the past couple years. With a soulful voice reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders, and bouncy melodies that recall Blondie at their most glorious. Karma and her formidable band bring a reassuringly yet freshing new sound. Her song "The Last Thing I'll Do" shows off her impressive vocal range as she growls and soars in the space of ten seconds "It's the last thing I'll do / sit around and wait for you...". Her previous album showed her blue-grass musical roots (she was born in North Carolina), and the single, "Superman," was highly requested on CD-93. The changeover to her newer sound isn't too much of a stretch, however. the same melodic grace and lyrical quality are there, and this time we're getting a full-length album's worth instead of a four-song EP. |
