Artist History
Frank and Happy had played together in earlier days, and were looking for members to a new band. In a coffee break at Oslo Lydskole (school of "sound") Frank overheard Øystein playing the piano. He liked what he heard, so they started talking music. It was soon clear that their musical interests as well as what they liked (and disliked) was very much the same. Later, teaming up with Happy and still talking music, it was inevitable that the sound of this new band was going to be influenced by 80's alternative rock and synth sound, which they all loved. Including a drum machine, Little Drummer Boy, the line-up was set |

Press Reviews
Terrorizer Magazine (UK) no.59, Oct. 1998: ETERNAL JOY: Arrogance & Charm (Skinny) 4.5 out of 5. Forget about Portugeans that sound like they could have starred in any random Disney feature involving some villain with a deep, comical voice. Forget about Americans seemingly determined to out-ugly Jabba the Hut. Forget about Brits with a strong fascination for blood-bathing Romanian countesses. When we're talking "gothic", we're talking hip-moving machinegrooves, guitarlines that engrave themselves in your memory in an instant, ultra-contaminous sing-along choruses, all pervaded by a great dose of melancholy and a small dash of irony. All it takes is three Norwegians to show you.Ever since I heard the more-than-promising debut-tape of theirs, I've been eager to further acquaint myself with these blokes, and Eternal Joy are more than welcoming. 'Arrogance & Charm' is positively the finest piece of Goff ever to come out of this lil' land, and it fills me with a childish sense of pride to witness an outfit of such qualities on familiar soil.As I have pointed out earlier, the songwriting abilities these guys possess, are outstanding. Each song is an instant hit, and a nifty little reminder why there are, or should be, a stack of old Sisters, Nephilim, Bauhaus and Cure vinyls somewhere in your home. Every melody is so infectious, every verse so attatching, every refrain so uplifting. You probably think I must be deranged to have such reactions to music that commonly is referred to as "depressive" and "gloomy". Their colours may be those of the night, but the craftmanship witnessed here is so good, every music buff will be over-joyed. Hence the name, it finally dawns on me...Einar Sjursø |
