Artist description
...down with his ship. is a three-piece band based near Indianapolis. They use one guitar, one bass and one drumset to create a sound which is much larger than the sum of it's parts. The resulting noise is somewhat conceptual and mathy with punk-rock undercurrents and a bit of a pop shine. I've heard ...down with his ship. compared to many bands - Fugazi, Shellac, Polvo, JesusLizard, At The DriveIn, Jawbox, ThePolice, Minutemen, Sweep The Leg Johnny - but their sound bears little more than a passing resemblance to any of these. |

Artist History
...down with his ship. unknowingly formed in 1997 when J.R. Turner(bass) and Victor Green(guitar) began writing songs and playing shows (sans drums) as The Smalls. They had already written numerous songs by the time they added a drummer and changed the band's name to ...down with his ship. In 1998 the sets were very conceptual and minimal and thirty-minute songs were commonplace. Over time, the band's sound became less minimal and began to more truly reflect their musical tastes. In 1999 ..down with his ship. upgraded to drummer Brand Smith, as a punk-rock aggressiveness became an undeniable aspect of the band's vibe. The year 2000 brought the release of their first CD, and many shows. Various performances throughout the Midwest have been met by receptive audiences. |

Press Reviews
"Vic is bouncing around, convulsing in such a way that onlookers would think that the electricity which feeds his amplifier was being routed directly through his body. Through the blur which is his arm, I can begin to see the crimson liquid, which will soon overtake the majority of his white Ovation Breadwinner. Nearby, wood is splintering against metal, and powerful strokes send sweat spraying off of the snare drum. Brand eyes the hi-hat with such concentration and intensity that I am waiting for the brass discs to melt. Jar is lunging back and forth in some sort of secret rhythm, seemingly disconnected from his bass. One string has already given way under the intense punishment, but he finishes the set perfectly with the remaining three . . . that was a brief account of the first time I saw ...down with his ship. I've seen them many times since, and they just keep getting better." - Charlie Grinder (Harsh Grind - issue#11, Nov.2000) |
