    Artist History
David hails from Newfoundland, and has spent most of his life on the Rock. Since leaving in the late '80s, he has lived and played on stages across Canada and a few elsewhere (in Ecuador and Sri Lanka). He now spends his time roaming between Peterborough, Nova Scotia and the West Coast of Newfoundland (home with a capital "haitch"). He comes from a musical family and was raised on a mixture of classical and traditional music. After studying classical guitar in his teens, he chanced upon the wide world of fingerstyle, steel-string players and was hooked. David has been playing guitar and writing music since then, stealing quite liberally from songwriters such as Bruce Cockburn, Richard Thompson, and Martin Simpson. Recent folk festival appearances include mainstage and workshop performances at the 1999 Regina and Peterborough Folk Festivals (and Dawson City Music Festival 2000 - upcoming), where he had the opportunity to share the stage with folk luminaries such as Stephen Fearing, Ferron, Willie P. Bennett, and Fred Eaglesmith. Other recent performance highlights include hosting folk society nights for Fundy Folk (Magretsville, NS), Seaside Folk (Broad Cove, NS), the Night Kitchen (Wolfville, NS) and opening for Lynn Miles at Peterborough's prestigious "Folk Under the Clock" series. David's debut CD of original material titled "Oliver's Arrival" is co-produced with multiple ECMA recipient David Hillier (whose production credits include Laura Smith and Rare Air). This full-length recording was released on David's label Killdevil Mountain Records in July of 1998. It has been featured extensively on College and CBC radio in Atlantic Canada ("Mainstreet," "Connections," and in concert and profile on "Atlantic Airwaves"), and across the country on "Disc Drive".

    Press Reviews
"Berger delivers a polished first outing, with strong musicianship and solid songwriting. And he obviously knows his target audience..." - Sandy Mackinnon, Halifax Daily News"David's debut CD, "Oliver's Arrival", was what first drew me to this up & coming singer songwriter. I was impressed by the quality of the songwriting, the musicianship and the production quality of this album. There is a maturity and a deep understanding of the emotionality of music in David's work...He opened up the Sunday night main stage show at the festival and had more than a few converions during his set. His gentle stage presence, his deep and clear voice, and his exellent guitar playing all made for a superb mainstage show." - Sandra Butel, Artistic Director, Regina Folk Festival
