Artist description
Bill Frissell playing on Trout Mask Replica with the cast of Miles' Bitches Brew listening to Elliot Sharp playing thru a super PA at a Football Stadium as Henry Kasier throws hotdogs at the stage!BRSW is what happens when you let whatever happens happen. Or you can think of it as a conversation, which is really what it is at it's best , insofar as there are a couple of things you need to do to have a good conversation. One is listening. Another is talking. Don't forget strategy! If you have nothingto say, change the subject.....If you have nothing to play, change the context. When we play this kind of "music", it's a very honest thing. We play what we play. Period. In that regard it's "free" - but also the most challenging musicto play. It IS a grossly self-indulgent act - and as close to ART in its pure form that I have ever experienced.Good talkers, great listeners, and for the most part, not the most charmingbunch of people to be around when they've had too much to drink. |

Artist History
BRSW started as a means of drinking beer on a Sunday night, and not having our girlfriends or wives think we where out having too much of a good time.It started as random evenings in Kip's basement with Kip and Ethan, or Kip and Steve, or Kip , Steve and Ethan with an assortment of some of Pittsburgh's best bass players. The core formed around Kip, Steve and Ethan, but we soon realized that we needed some bottom end. We immediately thought of Justin Brown who being a skinny little white kid, really doesn't have much of a bottom, nor does he have any nipples, but he can play a mean bass guitar. The only expectation of this unit is to have no expectations. Allow what ever will happen to happen, and create an enviroment in which anything can happen. No preconceptions, no wrong notes, no lagging behind the beat. This music is free, and should be able to do whatever it wants to do.When it works , it is sublime, when it fails, we are probaly the only people to realize it failed, but so far it hasnt let us down yet. Or more to the point, WE haven't let the music down yet.The point of this band's music is simple to exist and to be. We truly belive that art is for being, not for doing.Rock on!The rest is history. |
