Artist History
YN5 is a 4-piece rock band whose music has been described as College-pop, leaning towards Americana or alt-country. Don’t throw a blanket categorization on this band though. Danny Alexander of the weekly Kansas City publication, The Pitch, said of YN5’s (then playing under the name Amusement) 4 song release, simply titled ’98, “(Amusement) has solid talent and enough ideas, that this sounds like four different viable bands”.YN5 started out as a project band, with no intentions of ever performing live. The guys, with way too much time on their hands, sat down and came up with four songs they considered worthy of recording. From there they went into their home studio and laid down the drum tracks. As schedules opened up, each member headed to the studio and added his part. Within two weeks, and less than 24 hours of studio time, a 4-song CD was born. Now the band had a CD, but no name. Unable to come up with something meaningful, or at least interesting, The designer of the cover decided on Amusement as the band name, and ’98 and the CD name. It wasn’t until members of the band received their copies of the CD that they knew the band and CD had a name. Rather than come up with something they all agreed on, they decided it was easier to accept the compliments for the name and have someone else to blame when there was something negative. So Amusement it was. Once it was determined that maybe this band should stick around, at least long enough to put out another few CD’s, a new name was needed. Sweet Daddy Jim (the band’s agent and beer supplier) came up with Yellow No 5 while starting the day off right with a 24 oz. Jug of Mountain Dew.They have recently released thier first full lenght CD titled 'recliner'. |
