Artist History Born in Rocktober of 1999, Lariat has played all over the north east. They did a 10 day tour going out as far as detroit in august. They put out a 5 song demo in january which Got them signed to Last effort Recordings in Denmark. Lariat's Debut CD " Means of production" is out now on LE recordings. Lariat as a bunch of stuff in the works - 3 way split CD on Devilshead records with At War With Shadows and Cannan which should be out in the next month or so. Press Reviews LARIAT - 5-song demo The Loudnet WebsiteThis band is from the Albany, NY area if I'm not mistaken. Well, they kick ass and that's the bottom line. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Right here is a band that deserves to make it big time. My friend described it to me as "Burn it Down meets Acme" and I think that's actually pretty damn accurate. It has the heaviness of Burn it Down mixed with the total glass-shard-swallowing style of Acme. Plenty of double-bass, and lots of metal but just enough hardcore. This is definitely an ideal Loudnet band. They're heavy, metallic, and down right awesome. These guys get a very big A+ as well for being creative. The demo came to me on a CD-R with a nice photocopied pamphlet. It's sort of like a bio meets a political statement. It's got pictures and lyrics, but it's got persuasive writings to get your thought process in gear. It's about 24 pages thick, too! This is a short tape of awesome political metal-hardcore with a strong message. There's a big zine booklet that comes with this which is like a big "wake the fuck up look at our society" manifesto.It's really well done.-giving an overview, explenations to the lyrics and messages of the band as well as individual view points. The tape is only 5 songs though and it's so good i wish it were longer. Their sound is big with a strong powerful production. The sound is chunky with a thick guitar sound that rocks and grates with throbbing power. The vocals are deep and growling. And there is an ever present crunch with this distinct guitar metal-industrial sound that can't be described (though it reminds me of Pitchshifter, Godflesh and the like). The music is as hard hitting as the words and that is what I like to see! A molotov of hardcore fueled with criticism of consumer culture, government world politics and class structure. Well conceived and presented - Now i want a longer tape! Frigid Ember 5.0 E-ZineWell, Scotty Tripface is back, but lariat is DEFINITELY not Tripface. Lariat plays some pretty good metal core with a very political edge. The demo comes with a book outlining the band's political views and it's a really good read. I've actually talked with Scott via e-mail about politics etc. a few times and we pretty much share the same views in a lot of areas. I haven't had a chance to see these guys live yet since I've been in Florida, but I hear they GO OFF. Hey, the demo is like a dollar or it might even be free so why not get it huh?Frigid Ember One Eddict #2When I first heard the crunch of the guitar I heard early Earth Crisis, and was reminded of my first taste of new school hardcore. These guys have it together. Politically charged hardcore with deep throat vocals and a heep of posh parts. This band makes you think. Tape comes with a booklet about the band. Includes lyrics, pics, and side notes on each song and it's meaning. check them out.
