    Artist History
Gear was initially formed in the fall of 1998, when Charlie Rollo and long time friend, bassist J. Rivera, began working out some of Rollo’s new material. With that winter’s new addition, drummer Benny Walker, they began working on the group’s first album. In January 1999 with only a few songs committed to tape, both Rivera and Walker left the group to work with other acts, leaving Rollo the sole survivor of the band’s original incarnation. Songbook in hand, Rollo searched for several months to find the right group of competent, like-minded musicians to help revamp what was already on tape and to record what remained in his head. By May of that year, he enlisted the help of GIT graduate/guitarist Marc Bellais, bassist John Flores and drummer/soundman extraordinaire Eddie Tombrella, all of whom have worked together in various acts over the last several years. Each of the new members brought outstanding vocal ability and a masterful knowledge of his instrument. After several months of debugging the act, Gear was back in the studio with a little help from an old friend, drummer Kevin Patterson. Several song ideas were recorded during this period, and they were basically shelved until a permanent drummer could be found to Come in and re-cut the tracks. The winter of 1999 introduced drummer, Eric Thompson to round out Gear. Together, they have spent countless hours in the studio recording the last few songs and adding the finishing touches on the Gear “Disclaimer” album. In hopes of a mid to late fall 2000 release, the CD has been shelved once again due to numerous expenditures on their own recording studio. Construction began in early April 2000, and should last a few months. In the meantime, Gear will continue playing various private parties, block parties, weddings, and events such as the Houston Downtown Street Festival on Saturday, May 6th, 2000 on the 101 KLOL stage. A few side projects are also underway, including working on a soundtrack for an upcoming independent film. Meanwhile, Gear will continue to write and record more original music.
