    Artist description
Their sound, although none of these comparisons adequately describe Chump, is most often compared to Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine, 311, Limp Bizkit, and Spinal Tap. However, Chump's influences span from early punk rock, such as Naked Raygun, Minor Threat, etc. to metal bands such as Metallica, Anthrax, and S.O.D., to hip hop acts, such as Ice-T, NWA, and Public Enemy.

    Artist History
Like many bands, Chump met in college. Their senses of humor and common musical tastes gave them instant chemestry. All having come from different bands, they decided to take a different approach from what they'd all done in the past. They wanted to do something that would be funny and entertaining and keep people coming back to see show after show. When they wrote music, they concentrated as much on what the live crowd's reaction would be as they did on the music itself. Since then, the songwriting has become heavier and more serious, but still retained the live "edge" of the early days and Chump is still known in their scene as an intense band to see live.

    Press Reviews
Between October and and April of 1995, a band out of Provo, UT had a series of gigs which created a buzz around the scene that wouldn't leave. In this short time, this band had gone from being completely unknown to packing venues every weekend night of every month. They released a CD entitled muthahardinyourface, jack which would sell nearly 1,000 copies in just 3 months in Provo and Salt Lake City. Soon, the band was called from people in Moab, Logan, St. George, Cedar City, Layton, Ogden, and Salt Lake City, and began to travel each weekend, each time meeting an overwhelmingly positive response by a new crowd, even those who'd never seen or heard the band before. The band seems to have a natural ability to "win over" and keep any crowd involved until the very end. Chump's music was soon on Prime Sport Channel and in radio commercials, as well as the national #1 selling extreme sport mountain biking video, Plush. They were asked to open for Epitaph's "Joykiller," Capitol's "Jimmy Eat World," Goldenvoice's "Aquabats," and even earned a spot on the 1997 Vans' Warped Tour among bands such as Face to Face, Pennywise, and Descendents. They were asked to be interviewed for several newspapers, zines, online publications, and radiostations, and were even asked to do a 2 hour live set on a local radio station. Chump has received airplay on several college radio stations, including KTEK in New Mexico where their first album, muthahardinyourface, jack reached number 30 on their CMJ charts. 2 weeks after the release of their second album, Sucka, Chump debuted at number 6 on KTEK and would rise to number 2. Recently, Chump's name was mentioned in the August issue of Rolling Stone. What has made this unsigned band so successful? Musically, Chump is loud, hard, and incredibly tight. Their songs are catch and stick in your head for weeks. Visually, Chump is always entertaining to watch in their shows. "Their energy on stage is semi-legendary in Provo," (Grid Magazine, May 1997). Lyricially, the band is both cool and fun. Their lyrics can be appreciated by old and young as entertaining and stylish. Says Thor Wixom, President of Invictus Productions, "You guys have your finger on what the American teenager wants... in a way that I've never seen before. It's amazing.
