Artist description
The American Cheese Band is a unique group that mixes the music of blues and old folk with the energy of punk rock, and the irreverence and stark madness of adolescence. Their songs range from lyrically and musically altered versions of standard folk tunes (“Ghost Chickens in the Sky” as opposed to “Ghost Riders in the Sky” and a really dirty version of “Rawhide”) to hillbilly renditions of Marilyn Manson and Dead Milkmen songs, as well as many originals from the ultra-redneck to bottle-neck blues to breakneck rock. The band performs with unique folk instruments including the jug, jaw harp, kazoo, saw, spoons, Indian flute, washboard, and the tub bass (gut bucket) as well as acoustic and electric guitars, the banjo, ukulele, saxophone, flute and harmonica. The band has played in many different venues from quiet coffee house settings to outdoor festivals, and with artists ranging from solo acoustic song writers to punk rock and ska bands to bag pipers. The members of the band are not burned out old folk singers who are trying to appeal to a young audience but rather young guys (ages 18–24) who want to add a little bit of humor and originality to the Ventura music scene. |
