Ever had a mad fiddler in your lap?
At the Locals’ live shows you may just get that! Energetic live performances are just one of theTrademarks of this Chicago-based rock band. The Locals will treat you to head-spinning rock jams that will work you into a foot stomping frenzy, manic violin sawing that will captivate you, gritty female vocals that will sweetly lull you into submission, then blow you away with the sheer power, all bolstered by a tight rhythm section that pulls out all the stops!
"The Locals have been earning a reputation as a band that knows how to work out on stage…..and have now produced a group CD that delivers new marvels on every listen" David Joost, HomePrideProductions.com
"Front woman, Yvonne Doll unabashedley belts out her tunes with a rough around the edges sweetness reminiscent of Melissa Etheridge" Chicago-Music.com
The music is jambastic acoustic rock, featuring the wild fiddle sawing of David "Goldie" Goldman, the gritty power-house vocals of singer/songwriter Yvonne Doll, the kinetic bass work of Christy Nunes, and the stellar multi-faceted drumming of Ross Rutherford.
Music for people who read the lyrics, but still want to wake the neighbors.

Artist History
Yvonne Doll was a solo acoustic musician in Chicago
from 1993-1997. In 1997 The Locals were formed to support
Doll's first cd release, Bliss.
In 2000, the band released a second cd called "My Kind
of Freak"
The Locals latest release "Baby Buddhas & Little Einsteins" Nov 2002,
is a departure from the previous 2 releases in that
the sound is a more cohesive and distinct "Locals" sound.
In addition to Doll's trademark percussive acoustic guitar,
she's added a brand new dimension with the electric guitar on many
tracks. Dave Goldman's violin style is expanded on thi
effort as well, employing his definitive style as well
as many new "effects". Ross Rutherford has taken
over the reigns behind the drum set. His seasoned,
rock solid drumming, combined with the intricate &
melodic bass stylings of Christy Nunes has taken
the rhythm section to a new level.
Baby Buddhas and Little Einsteins will be released on Nov.9 2002 |

Press Reviews
aGGressiVe folk-rock comes to mind. Like the mUsIcal cHiLd of Dave Matthews and Indigo Girls. Yvonne's lyrics are about strength and positivity... if there is one thing that sets this band apart from the crowd, it's the lyrics and voice of Yvonne Doll" Cate Nolan, MetroMix.com " ................................"The music has a nice gRittY blues/folk feel to it, driven largely by the vocal work of Yvonne herself..... her strong/throaty singing style lends itself well to the music and gives it a definite siGnaTure .The drum parts are solid and uNiqUe...The bassist has a nice waLkiNg stYle that compliments the music nicely. The violinist, an interesting touch to an otherwise traditional combo, fits in well and gives a nice compliment to Yvonne's solid work on the acoustic guitar." Steven Schrader, The Musicians Homepage................................ "Fans of the Indigo Girls and Michele Shocked will feel right at home, and the tough, folk-rock of her debut "BLISS" has spice and grit.." Monica Kendrick, the chicago reader................................ "Yvonne Doll has a sOliD acOUstiC roCk album under her belt with her debut release of "Bliss". She combines rock, folk, and a little blues with a rough around the edges vocal style. tough and sensitive, gritty and clean, all at the same time. .... And while this album soUndS GreAt musically, the lyrics should not be overlooked .... They are strong, poetic, deep, and passionate...Gogirlsmusic.com A cd review by Elizabeth in Houston, TX |
