Artist description
indierock/hardcore.. Defying convention with a supersonic hybrid style, the Somerset
league is more a force of nature than a mere rock and roll band. Weaving
sound and voice with an unearthly passion, the league are pushing the
envelope of what it means to rock.
The SOMERSET league was formed in 1995 from the ashes of two
prominent Pennsylvania bands, Extend and Workshop 8. When the hard-
core band Extend decided to call it quits at the height of their popularity, the
band's main musical force, guitarist Eric Robinson, saw it as an oppurtunity
to branch out in a new direction. At the same time, the experimental punk
band Workshop 8 was breaking up and the rhythm section, consisting of
Joey Solimini on drums and Geoff Dixon on bass, were more than willing
to help Eric out in his ventures.
They set to work immediately developing a unique brand of music
that would incorporate their vast and diverse influences. After recording a
demo, they hit the club, coffee shop and college circuit where they refined
their sound and caused a few raised eyebrows due to the hybrid nature of the
music. What at first was a barrier to overcome, has become an asset in the
fact that the SOMERSET league's fan base is as diverse as their music.
When one listens to the league, one can hear traces of old school
punk, hardcore, rock, metal and jazz. Reviewers of their cd are hard pressed
to make comparisons, but when they do, cotemporary bands as diverse as
Hot Water Music, Elliott, Tool, At The Drive In, Into Another, and the
Enkindels are usually mentioned.

Artist History
The direction of the band is constantly
moving forward and progression to a more original and dynamic sound
is always a priority. It would not be farfetched to hear elements of trip hop
and tribal music or string arrangements in the very near future.
The SOMERSET league has toured extensively over the last year and
a half. Touring the east coast with Shyster and Dynamite Boy, as well as with
Eventide and the World is My Fuse in the summer of '98 gained them a lot
of respect. If they arrive at a show unknown, they definately leave a lasting
impression with their highly intense and theatrical performance. The requests
for them to play at several major fests this year is testimony to their growing
popularity.
The SOMERSET league has recorded and released several demos, a
full length cd and have been included on many compilations. They are
planning to release a new cd in early August 99 and they have been asked to
appear on the soundtrack to a new independent film.
