Artist description
LAVA, a Richmond area band, was formed in February, 1998 when drummer Ronnie Bell, veteran of various local bands, most notably the Lions, decided he wanted to write and record his own music. He went out and bought a bass guitar and started to come up with musical ideas. Most of these ideas became the songs that makeup the debut CD Laugh Now, Beg Later.
As with anything ideas alone can’t make things happen. Sonny Kreynus, guitarist, was available to add his own structure and style to the songs and give things a little harder edge. Kreynus, also an area musician was a key factor in arrangement of the songs and a strong songwriter as well, which will be evident on the bands follow-up CD due for recording in early 1999.
Chelsea Raine, vocalist was found through a local musician bulletin board. Upon calling her it was found that she already had written notebook upon notebook of lyrics ready to be put to music. Within 3 or 4 meetings with Bell most of the basic lyrical structure was worked out for all of the songs with minimal changes and a little rearranging. The majority of vocal style and lyrical content remains the same to this day as it appears on the earlier demos for the same tracks. Raine, also a veteran of various bands had moved to Virginia from Austin, Texas to make something happen with her music. It now seemed like things were.
The group was rounded out with Cory Tick, bassist, a Richmond area native and veteran of several local bands Such as The Lions, along with Bell, And Spitfire America from New York City. Tick brought forth a creative style of his own which enhanced the songs on the CD, and makes the live performance more solid with a "balls to the wall" yet fun attitude.
