Artist description
What is there to say about ERL SHIBE FIVE? A powerful ensemble? … Yes. A culmination of individuals, each contributing their talents to produce a unique overall sound? ... most definitely. But more than that, ERL SHIBE FIVE, through their use of original eclectic music and intense stage shows, have managed to create a diverse following of loyal fans. Some come for the music, some for the show, but all come to be a part of the ERL SHIBE FIVE experience. It wasn’t always this way. It has taken several years to reach the synergy the group has since attained. |

Artist History
The concept of Shibe started back in the spring of 1993 when guitarist Colin Gentle threw together a ska band for an on campus battle of bands. Instead of the usual horn section, the group employed a series of kazoo players. The result was more hilarious then inspiring. Although the kazoo section didn’t last, Colin’s unique song writing ability wasn’t to be wasted. Shibe eventually traded in the kazoos for a more conventional horn section and a stronger rhythm section. But the idea behind a less conventional line up was not lost. Shibe’s basic line up includes a standard rhythm section of bass, drums and guitar, then adds mallet percussion and a tenor/baritone sax player. Shibe has also used viola, in both live and recorded settings, as well as additional horns, and even a DJ. They are always looking for new and interesting sound to expand their music. |
