Artist History
Friedman first burst on the music scene in '77 with
the huge success of his pure-pop top-20 hit "Ariel",
a suburban ode to a pot-smoking, vegetarian Jewish girl in a
peasant blouse. His next single "Lucky Stars"
became an instant chart-topping smash in the UK
followed by a string of hits including "Lydia",
"Rocking Chair" and "Woman of Mine". In 1992 the
Canadian band Barenaked Ladies had a regional hit
with Friedman's song "McDonald's Girl" and the same
song became a #1 European hit when it was covered by
the Universal Records group the Blenders. Critics favorite
Ben Folds Five even recorded an homage to Friedman's
song 'Ariel' about another pot-smoking, blouse wearing,
music playing, suburban babe named 'Kate'. Following
a decade of producing Virtual Reality video games,
returned in '98 with his acclaimed double CD entitled,
"Songs For Grownups" a 28-track masterpiece demonstrating
a brilliant artist at the peak of his craft. His latest release, "The Treehouse Journals" is a classic piece of Americana and contains one of his finest compositions, the epic "George Washington Slept Here". |
