Press Reviews
here's what at least 2 people are saying:"BGM is [a] Toronto-based singer-songwriter...who makes some of the best acoustic pop music around. One can hear the influences of Big Star, Pet Sounds-era Beach Boys, and fellow Canadian Hayden in BGM's lush acousticguitars, soaring vocals and minimalist tendencies, but BGM remains an artist with a unique musical sound. BGM's lyrics are also very strong--the wistful melancholy and nostalgia of "Two Cigarettes" is heartbreaking, and "Like Sun" manages to be sweet without becoming cheesy. BGM promises more songs and a CD in the near future, but in the meantime you can check out Gleaner (www.mp3.com/gleaner), BGM's band with his brother, and the terrific Danish techno group Phero (www.mp3.com/phero), for whom BGM has contributed vocals on a couple of tracks." Review by Inc., www.mp3gab.com"BGM is a solo artist from Ontario, Canada, with a lighthearted and playful style. "Like Sun"has some reassuring advice to give with lineslike "Ifthey get you down, it's only 'cause you let them... You're spending too much time alone". But this advice is anything but heavy-handed. Instead it sounds like a young father talking to his son, in a very soft and breathy tone, with a sunny hint of pride in his voice. "Like Sun" may be a reference to the the saying, "like father, like son", with a little poetic liscense taken. The catchy hook is delivered on top of a Beatles' White Album-esque acoustic guitar with syncopated rhythm of handclaps and bongos. By adding in a "little tykes" toy piano melody to fill in the vocal gaps, BGM makes the low-fi production quality sound intentional and completely welcome. It promotes the feeling that you are being let in on a very tender secret moment, which makes this song unique and memorable.
