Artist description
TLT started 10 years ago in a Golden Bay Summer. Rob picked upPJ Gillespie hitching, and discovered a mutual interest in Hank Williams, motorcycles, and drugs. A stoned summer followed. Then the first gig. At Cannaan Downs Biker Rally (now the site of the Gathering). From there RobTravelled to Dunedin, played in many bands , travelled back th the Bay in 93 and formed The Haircutters, and went on to play around the South, including a gig at Nile River. Again back to Dunedin Rob met up with David Muir, of Bungalow, a popular Nelson band of the time, whose members had all transposed themselves to Dunny. Rob and Dave met up at the Russel St Dairy and formed The Lonesome Throats. That was 1995. Dec. We did our first gig with Scavenge Shaw in 96 |

Artist History
Dunedin cult band The Lonesome Throats first crawled out of Takaka 10 years ago sounding like the music of Merle Haggard and Jeannie C Riley has been congenitally fixed in the back of their heads, then turned by urban wasteland rock |

Press Reviews
initial tracks have turned up on Indie Hit Disc and Radio One compilations and an album has been completed. This may end up with the raw open-viened purists at Kato Music, a suitable home indeed for such jagged country tinged rockabilly madness. Two of the bands guitarists didn't pick up an instrument until they were 30 something, so a sense of depracating humour is inevitably one of their on stage weapons. But their is a pathological desire to entertain too, as well as a genuine love of country music, albeit an interpretation of it that would be dangerous to reveal at Gore or Tamworth. The Barrel and the Butterfly is a Dunedin student radio anthem and much loved number live. Other titles include Elvis was a Drug Queen on LSD. gET the picture? This band boasts 8 children between them too. That must say something. roy colbert |
