    Artist History
Proteus was born in 1998 when Jason Mccormack approached keyboardist of Juno Scenario Joe Pagano to record some of his own music. The result was a song called Perfect Whore. Shortly after this, Juno Scenario had to take a break from playing due to their drummer leaving for the Marines. Liking the one song that was created so much, Jason and Joe formed Proteus, with both of them contributing to songwriting and programming. In 1999 Proteus co-released a demo cd with sister band Juno Scenario, a raw & nasty demo. In 2001 Proteus released the debut cd "Disonnance is Bliss." The response was amazing. That year Proteus also had the oppurtunity to open for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, one of the biggest bands in the industrial/goth genre. In 2002 Proteus also opened for the 80's bands Missing Persons and Gene Loves Jezebel. On 9/29/03, with the future wide open, Proteus came to an abrubt end.

    Press Reviews
"Proteus, a band that combines an assortment of powerful mind-blowing industrial strength vibes, beats, and sounds, is undefiably the most impressive band that's popped out of the woodwork in years. With catch-appealing songs like "I Will Find You (303)", "Perfect Whore", and "Set Me Free" (among many other tracks), Proteus will lead you into another state of mindful bliss, a heaven if you will, for industrial-ites and goth-addicts. Don't let their California looks decieve you, for behind that wall of normality lies a hidden power, the power of music. Demonically possessive music at that. It will haunt you to the point where you can't leave home without it. Proteus keeps you locked in and propels you to keep coming back for more and more, a drug for the new generation of music lovers." ~ Wednesday Elektra, Aid For Bands, www.angelfire.com/in2/bandaids, June 3rd, 2002................."Writing catchy songs with hooks is often an aethstetic lost within the din of the industrial genre , but it is not lost on southern California's proteus. The 11 songs found on Dissonance is Bliss shows them to have a good deal of crossover potential."God Tonight" is just some driving guitars and a slick producer away from being a radio hit ala Orgy's "Blue Monday". "Q.D.L.E.M." is a goofy little romp that will be going around your head for days. the "punkish" edge of the track works very well for the band."Set Me Free" builds itself into a nice frenzy. "The One" is subtle and introspective with it's scaled back approach. It's the "ballad" of the album if you will, and its a beautiful song.Like "The One", a large portion of the album deals with the ever popular "relationship gone awry" topic. This suits the band well with their blend of dark synths and singer Jason McCormack's pained vocals. Future stalker anthem "I Will Find You" appears twice on the album, and the original version's creepy piano and slower tempo convey the song's lyric's better than the more dance oriented "303 mix" at the end of the album. That's not to say that either is a bad track." Perfect Whore" will sneak up on you after a few listens with its synth pulses and not leave you alone for awhile. As of the writing of this review the album is for sale for only $5, "God Tonight" alone is worth that.So go pick one up and keep an eye on these guys there's some definite potential here. buy Proteus' DIssonance." ~ The Electronic Underground, www.digitalriot.cjb.net
