Artist History
Robert Daria was sick of hearing the lousy renditions of the great Scott Joplin's music. (Although a wonderful movie, THE STING, took lots of liberties with Joplin's music, which started a horrendous trend). People started playing Joplin way too fast (They also did that in Joplin's time. Ragtime players would have contests to see who could play Maple Leaf Rag the fastest). Some music "scholors" took the opposite approach and started playing his music too slow. Other orchestrators (listen to any MUZAK-STYLE arrangement of The Entertainer) leave out entire SECTIONS of his works.Hence, Robert Daria's renditions. Played as written. Researched as to how fast/slow they were really played. Scott Joplin himself said: "Ragtime should never be played fast." |
