Artist description
This Vegas-based band is truly the sum of its parts. Drawing on a range of influences that stretches from Led Zeppelin to Blondie, ATS makes the descriptive phrase “pop-rock” into a compound verb. The band’s music pops and rocks like nothing else out there, in Vegas or the world at large. Automatic Taxi Star is addictive enough to warrant restraint. You’ll have to pry yourself away from the chorus of “So Sue Me.” “Carnival” may cause auto accidents; it gives your feet, hips and hands better things to do. And the playfully tough “She’s A Bit” distills everything that was good about the Go Go’s, Cub, The Las, The Cars and Jellyfish into one sweet and loving slap upside the head. Naturally, the goods are in the mix. Tiffany Fredianelli comes from a musical clan; her father has performed with the Gaylords for over 50 years, and her brother Tony is lead guitarist for Third Eye Blind. She attended the Baldwin-Wallace Music Conservatory as a harp major, and frequently backs ATS on guitar and keys. Tiffany has performed in local bands for years, most notably in the wildly popular Vegas show band Loveshack – voted Best of Las Vegas in a Review-Journal poll two consecutive years.Rich Hughes has also enjoyed local success. As a co-founder of Mama Zeus, Hughes helped the band to achieve regional notice and near-unanimous critical acclaim practically overnight. He left the band a few years back to hone his playing and songwriting, and to learn web design (why not?). He has built sites for five Las Vegas radio stations; next, he aims to be on those stations, in heavy rotation.Tony Santoro will help them get there. He learned to play the drums at age 6, picked up the bass in 8th grade “because no one else wanted to do it,” can sing lead and backing vocals depending on the occasion, and has performed in venues from New York City to the Cayman Islands. Such is his devotion to his playing that he only attended one year of a four-year scholarship to the Columbus College of Art and Design to play in a band.Johnny Fedevich made no such choice when “Jerry Maguire” director Cameron Crowe wanted to cast him in his next film, “Almost Famous." Johnny mixed it up with Frances McDormand, Anna Paquin, Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson and Peter Frampton, but he’s not about to forgo his drum kit for screen tests. He feels completely at home in Automatic Taxi Star, a band that allows him to indulge his passion for “power-pop fused drumming,” and look good doing it.“This seems to be an era of angst-ridden rock bands,” says Rich. “We hope our music leaves listeners feeling good. There’s enough frustration in people already. We don’t write songs to try to accentuate that.” He needn’t hope; the band’s energy is so good, the music could practically make itself. Automatic Taxi Star is offering one wild ride, and the passenger’s door is open. |
