Artist History
Sometimes described as "Goth/Light-Industrial", Velvet Violet began in 1992 as a musical experiment. The music has since found an audience world-wide as part of the underground music scene. Velvet Violet is a dark rock band that blends goth, industrial, and ambient elements with a lyrical depth and honesty that is rare to this genre.Velvet Violet's original sound has been loosely compared to bands like Nine Inch Nails,Bauhaus and Mija. The project is the brain child of Jason Blades, former front man of the very short lived industrial project "Chane Lynx". Soon after Chane Lynx disappeared, Blades went from performing Shakespeare to becoming one of the founding members of Hollywood based "Travelling Nightmare and Poison Medicine Show". A performance art group known primarily for its outrageous and controversial stage shows. Blades has been writing and performing original music and theatrical presentations since the age of seven. In the early 1990's Velvet Violet was formed in a dark, candlelit basement as an artistic adventure. Soon Blade's surreal vision escaped it's underground birthplace and emerged via demo tapes to become part of the underground landscape. Blades was later approached by Jeff Duran host of the underground radio show "L.A. rock Scene", a program that has featured such artists as Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath,Kid Rock, and Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit . The first radio interview for Velvet Violet was soon a reality. Blades began work on what would become "The Beautiful Atrocity", a collection of all new material that takes the darker side of electronic music to a new level. The first single “Ashes” premiered on the popular show “the rock n’ roll junkies lunchbox” radio program on “the rock 106.5 FM”. More tracks from the album were featured on other stations and have become popular mp3 downloads. |

Press Reviews
(REVIEW#1)Velvet Violet"The Beautiful Atrocity"(BZR)-This CD is packed with undeniably catchy hooks enriched in a dark overcoat of seedless passion. Musician Blades sets out on a one man quest for unmistakable love and beauty, only to become shrouded with despair and persecution for seeking truth in life. This shines with oceans of depth that recharge a lacking distant musical genre. EXCELLENT! ****** -"Precious"' Vic Odan THE NEW DISC REVIEW (REVIEW#2) The "Rock Junkie" gives it three and a half syringes! (Out of four) "The Storm" sets the tone to this very personal almost concept offering by ambient/Goth upstarts Velvet Violet. As Trent Reznor and Travis Meeks before him, Jason Blades makes up the entire band as singer, songwriter, and producer. As past Velvet Violet offerings mostly consisted of instrumental arrangements and movie soundbites, 'Atrocity' brings to life a VOICE and vision, Previously lacking in other efforts. The voice is not just that of Blades, but as an artist, as he candidly describes personal hardships and emotions. "Child of Madness" is a chilling portrayal of child abuse that offers no message or resolution. Tracks like the 80's-ish "Ashes" pack a punch as Blades "says good-bye" to friendships (or friendship) that were filled with lies: "spent too many years on many sinking ships" he rants. "Dark Whispers" showcases Blades as a dark romantic presence that can almost be a subtle description what the original "Goth" lifestyle was intended to be. On a whole, "Atrocity" shines like a diamond in a genre filled with needless gore and hokey imagery. Fearless in taking creative leaps project to project, Velvet Violet like creme on a strawberry soda will rise to the top of this dying genre. Inside sources say Jason did this all himself with help from computers and makeshift mics!?? This Blade is a cut above the rest!!! - Jeff Duran “The Rock N’ Roll Junkie" The Rock 106.5 FM, Columnist "Nightmoves Magazine",Host "Metalblitz" KLSX 97.1FM |
