Artist History
The concept of Severed was born in the summer of 1994 when singer, Jason Smitherman, wanted to get away from his speed metal roots by going a little more electronic. The project was halted when Jason was approached to form what would become Arcanum. By the summer of 1996, Arcanum had long fallen apart and 2 songs, Kitre and Blessed, were recorded under the name Severed. In 1998 the project was halted by the formation of Fusion. About two months later, Fusion was no more and all his time was dedicated to Severed. The summer of 1999 gave birth to 2 new songs under the Severed name: Fading Reality and Drift. By this time Jason Gilbertson came into the picture. It turned out that the two Jason's shared a common musical vision and Joined forces in December of 1999. The two of them threw ideas around for the next few months. In May of 2000, with nothing more than a guitar, bass, a radio shack mic, a drum machine, and an outdated computer, they release the first official Demo under the Severed name. The demo made its way over to Jon Barnard, a friend the Jason's met a few years back. By the end of May Jon became the new guitarist. The next year was spent just trying to keep things together not to mention trying to find a drummer. In February of 2001 Chris, from Ellipse Productions, introduced us to drummer, PJ Chesney. This has been the band's lineup ever since. Severed is currently recording the new demo. |
