Artist History
Under alias, Master Blaster was born in 1994 when T Cravens and AJ McKinney dissolved their previous musical engagement to blaze new terrain. With the help of New York Tardcore affiliate Brian "Unk" Hunter on the bass, the band established the foundation in the studio, drifting between a raw, noisy hiss and an inclination for melody that takes the piss out when no one is looking. Both a tribute to and a parody of rock and roll and the icons of excess, songs like "Born A God" and "Topsided" reflect the obsession to over-estimate human nature and under-estimate the elements that bind us. With an ever-open-door policy, the shows were eventful, yet sparse while the wealth of original material continued to grow. By the time bassist Jason Sheroan found himself in the fold, McKinney and Cravens had over seventy-five songs in the sack. Tunes such as “Happy Poppy," "Merry Go Cyclone,” and "Big Mouth" became staple live numbers as the band took the music to the streets when they had the nerve. With the addition of guitarist Rob Barr 1998 (who parted ways with the band in 2000), it wasn't uncommon for the band to play up to four sets a night, providing a lot of room for experimentation and seasoning the chemistry between the personalities within the band; personalities that are both contrasting, yet complimentary. With that in mind, Master Blaster recorded a batch of songs for their first and soon to be “officially” released 6 song EP, The Master Blaster EP. Imagine taking a subtle inclination towards the atypical midwestern disillusion and filtering it through a flirtatious rock and roll smoke screen; Master Blaster provide the soundtrack to post-boredom daydreams. In essence, The Master Blaster EP is retrospective sample; indicative of what the band has been doing up until now: making music for music's sake and willing to take the back roads. From the irresistible melody and restraint of "Vitamin" to the quirky abrasion of "Insomnia," Master Blaster restore faith in rock and roll music as a valid medium, rooted in the idea of music sustained by and for the people at large; music for the listener as well as the musician. |
