Artist History
Joe Black. Background: formerly a bassist in two seminal Baltimore area bands: Venus Sparkplug (w/ Timm Noble from the band SELF and Jim Chaney from JIMMIE'S CHICKEN SHACK) and Greenhouse (with current Land Speed Record drummer Marc Berrong). Chronology: After having retired from music for several years to travel aimlessly to the far east, Joe emerged in October of 1999 with a slew of new songs and a radically different direction than his previous bands: mainly immersing himself in contemporary dance and mood rock, drawing obvious comparisons to Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, and Beth Orton. After being picked up by the influential regional booking agency Full Circle Productions Black went on a series of prestigious opening slots, building on his already impressive resume (Jimmies Chicken Shack, Fuel, Two Skinnee Jays, Fugazi, Marcy Playground) by opening up for The Getaway People, Mary Lou Lord, Jimmy Wilson, and Peter Cornell. |

Press Reviews
I'll take this opportunity to counsel all of you on the evils of the bureaucratically and establishment controlled media. In this day and age, and in our media-obssessed culture, we ought to throw away our newspapers, our MSNBC, and our TIME magazines for more thoughtful, unbiased forms of communication...one that isn't controlled by money-hungry empire. Therefore, of course, I would suggest we revert back to our most primal means of grunting and clicking, possibly Native American Smoke Signals, and carrier pigeons. What does this all mean...I haven't taken the time to cut out any stupid press clippings. People like us, though. -joe black |
