Artist History Indiana has spawned its fare share of musical heavyweights. It seems the heartland grows 'em good. Well, you can add Jason Hausman to the list. The truth of the matter is that the Terre Haute native has been down South long enough to have kudzu in his veins. But in either locale, Hausman has proved himself to be a serious talent. This Midwestern boy and Southern acquisition was once referred to by Charlotte's Creative Loafing as an "atom blast" and has been sighted as "the areas best songwriter" by the Terre Haute Tribune Star. The driving force behind Hausman's music is his ability to turn every day life into poetry. He takes the pang of all the things we live through - love, loss, and everything in between, and ties them into neat, well-tailored, gorgeous pop songs. Probably a dying art, but there are still a few troubadours out there... and Hausman is definitely one of them.Hausman studied percussion and composition at the University of North Carolina- Greensboro, a renowned music school. Fortunately for us all, he turned to a more writer-friendly instrument... the guitar. While a student, he formed the famed Blue Mongoose, sharing stages with greats of all musical genres: Ben Folds Five, Herbie Mann, Bus Stop, The Veldt, and Larry Coryell, just to name a few. The 'Goose ran strong through various incarnations, the last of which released a powerful CD in 1993 entitled Giving up the Ghost. With the breakup of Blue Mongoose in 1995, Hausman continued to perform as a solo artist, often backed by a revolving group of musicians he referred to as The Hausman Syndicate. He was signed to Rockduster Records in 1996, and, while sharing the stage with the likes of Athenaeum, Cravin' Melon, Muscadine, and Far Too Jones, he wrapped up the recording and release of his debut CD, aptly titled...The Hausman Syndicate, in 1997. The release has been met with great enthusiasm. Columbia's Free Times compared the sound to "the earnest rock of The Verve Pipe" and "the feel-good melodies of Cravin' Melon" and said that "between...lies the emotional terrain of The Hausman Syndicate"Soon after Hausman's move to Charlotte, NC he joined forces with Jody Gholsen (Peace and Love) and Eric Lovell (Wichita Caravan, ColorBlind, David Childers) to form the acclaimed acoustic trio Lovehaus. Lovehaus performed all over the Carolina's throughout 1999. Hausman left Lovehaus at the end of 1999 to continue with his solo career.Hausman is currently concentrating on recording as a solo artist and is working on a CD to be released on Orpheus Arts Records by year's end 2000. Meanwhile, Jason is performing live at select venues throughout the Southeast. Whether the sound graces your airways, your stage, or your CD player... you will not be disappointed.
