Artist History
Damian Kilday was born and raised in Chugiak, Alaska - a quaint little town about 20 miles north of Anchorage, where strange things happen to people who happen to be even more strange than the things that happen to them.Born in 1973 to hippy-types, his dad, a professional singer/songwriter, and his mom, a coffee-shop waitress, Damian was involved in the music world from a very early age; This ran the gamut from pee-peeing in his dad’s guitar case as a tyke to watching his dad’s performances as a youngster, and becoming a slave to his habitual writing “problem” as a young man. After a few years of piano lessons as a child and then, a short stint of musical “silence“, Damian discovered the beast we call the “axe” at the ripe age of 15, and literally played until his fingers bled. Always striving to be the best at all he undertook, Damian honed his basic guitar skills and went on to develop his own unique playing style. Shortly after moving to Denver, Colorado in 1989, Damian studied with world-renown flamenco and classical guitarist Rene Heredia. Much of what he learned from Rene, as well as the influences from his musical upbringing, he incorporated into his own musical style. The result: A unique and wonderful blend of classical and flamenco guitar styles melded with mainstream “Folk-n-Roll.” Add to this Damian’s thoughtful, biting, and sometimes quirky lyrics to get a truly one-of-a-kind, irresistible music style.Currently the lead guitarist for the alternative folk/rock band “Watching Haley”, Damian also shares roles in lead vocals and songwriting. The band, performing in clubs in the Denver area, plays Damian’s music as well as material written by other band members. Presently, two of Damian’s original tracks, Fallen and She Gave Me Wings, are being considered for the soundtrack to the upcoming George Clooney produced movie, Rock Star, starring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Anniston. Damian and “Watching Haley” are presently looking for a venue to record their first live demo cut of original music. |

Press Reviews
"If you like progressive acoustic rhythms then Damian Kilday's 'I Stare' is one to listen to. Damian's lyrics are catchy with a great hook. Pleasant to the ear! Recorded with just an acoustic guitar and a single vocal track it reminds me of the great Paul Simon with comparable songwriting that would give Simon a run for his money and make him 'Stare' at the talented DAMIAN KILDAY..." - Tyler Aims ******** "Damian could be the sort of songwriter who ends up being covered by one of these great pop-rock-alternative singers who can't write his (or her) way out of a paper bag..." ********"I heard this guy writes because he's so overflowing with emotion that writing is the only way he can cope without hurting rodents or seemingly oblivious insects." - Anonymous Hotdog Vendor |
