Press Reviews
Fans of Makyo, Loop Guru, Waterbone and especially William Orbit should take notice of this release. As a global fusion of modern electronica with ancient traditions of Indian music, Atman enters right at the top of the heap. Indian chants are reminiscent of the Indi-Pop works of Sheila Chandra and Jai Uttal, & the pop sensibilities remind me of where Madonna has been headed (with William Orbit) on her Indian excursions, only they are even more fully realized. Each track is a spirited adventure that bridges the space between the worlds &emdash; mantras, ethnic instruments, dance rhythms, sampled sounds, inspired vocals, and truly multi-cultural artistry. Victor Ruiz created the Atman project with the intention of breaking the barriers of time and space in celebration of what is eternal in man. He plays keyboards and samples, with a generous cast of Indian vocals, santur, frame drums, sitar, shakuhachi flutes, tabla, vocal percussion, darbouka, violin and assorted sampled effects.Lloyd Barde,Owner of Backroads Music Atman has tracks included on Buddha Bar II e Nirvana Lounge compilations . |
