The music is grounded in blues and rock but crosses boundaries into jazz, folk, funk and basically anything that - feels right. |

Artist History
When l7, his band "JUMPIN' THE GUNN" were, at the time, the only British act to sign with VIRGINS's blues label POINTBLANK, alongside acts such as Pops Staples, Albert Collins, John Hammond Jnr, etc. They travelled to Memphis to record an album of Andy's songs and of course jam on Beale Street. Many radio and T.V. shows followed including BBC l, RADIO 1+2 etc. Unfortunately, they split and Andy went back to doing what he did best, writing and jamming with friends which led him to signing with PROVOGUE, to make "STEAMROLL", his first solo album. This year sees the release of Andy's new CD available at mp3.com entitled 'Give her Diesel' |

Press Reviews
Reviews of 'Give her diesel' ....REVIEW 1) a mellow, lovable collection it is - Euan Dale's harp a lush presence, and just one of the fine supporting roles played to Andy's QUIRKY SongWriting - his own voice, left untampered with. Perhaps not perfect (I'm reminded of Eric Clapton's ever-evolving, improving vocals), but always unique and happy to be itself. How Long's A While? sets the mood with Dr Daydream and bluesy number Sycamore drifting you into the laid back CHILL OUT feel that infuses the album, closing with the lazy, sunshiny glow of Salmon's Fin............ REVIEW 2) .......If I had a rocking chair and a porch, that's where I'd choose to listen to this - A REAL GROWER OF AN ALBUM. Perhaps best known for making a guitar sing on sweaty BLUES JAMS, Gunn reveals another string to his bow on a soulful, laid back set with some lovely moments. Vocals may not be his strongest suit, but he comes up with some sweet ones here, notably on the pretty "Changing Times" and the reflective "Rainy, Sunny". Andy Thorburn's lovely box playing adds some lovely warm flourishes through out while Jo Hamilton provides a reliable foil on backing vocals, especially on the set closer, "Salmon's Fin". The harmonica of Euan Dale and the solid bass of Kevin Ronaldson round out the sound which at times comes across as an ISLEY BROTHERS - Van Morrison jam session. |
