Artist description
So what the heck is this? Total Eclipse was the name of a band that flashed across the Raleigh, NC scene over a decade ago. Our heyday was from about 1988 till 1990. The band included E.G. Peters on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Tim Barnes on lead electric guitar, Ski Szypulski on rhythm guitar and keyborads, Pat Barnes on bass and John Mouser on drums. We've all gone on to other projects. Long since gone, but MP3.com gives us the opportunity to digitally archive some of our songs and remind folks who we were and what we did way back when. Take a listen to where we were and how we got there. There's even some examples of where we progressed as we splintered apart. You'll hear lots of different and divergent influences in the music of Total Eclipse. We were five very different people and that's one reason why we only stuck together a couple years. You'll hear blistering guitar ala Edward Van Halen. You'll hear intricate songwriting with rare chord changes and guitar tunings like King Crimson. You'll hear jazzy bass lines and subtle keyboard riffs like Dave Matthews. You'll hear powerful and emotive vocals influenced by CCR. You'll hear soulful lyrics over grooving acoustic guitar like Hootie and the Blowfish. So take a listen and hear the Raleigh scene more than a decade ago, before the age of ubiquitous digital recording, when progressive meant alternative and alternative was in its infancy. We were it. We were Total Eclipse... 1988. |

Pat and Tim are hanging out Chatham County's Chicken Shack, where you can hear Tim's band, Betsy in the Gene Pool, pretty regularly. EG's Last Minute Band plays the clubs and private dates around town almost every weekend. Ski's now the bass player in Leaning Owen, a Raleigh power pop trio. |
