Artist description
Steam Powered is just a studio in my basement. Before that it was upstairs in the spare bedroom. Before that it was on a closed-in porch in another house. But now it's in a basement, along with all the drainpipes and gas lines and heat pipes and water pipes. There's a furnace in there too, and this is one reason I call it Steam Powered.I try to keep the music sort of funky and natural.I really like the sounds that came from the smaller studios-Sun, Stax, Mussle Shoals...Lee Perry! The technology has come so far since those days, but I try not to let that get in the way. What technology does is to help me work efficiently, which makes the whole studio possible.See, I don't think that the good stuff is a matter of equipment. It's in the performance. |

Artist History
I started out in the '70's by "bouncing" tracks between two cassette recorders.Eventually, I got some stereo reel to reel machines and a bigger mixing board.I was always playing in bands as well- everything from bluegrass to world beat.I'd record my bands, friend's bands, solo performers... I've got mounds of tapes. In 2000 I decided to give it a name- Steam Powered. |

Group Members
I'm Jeff Coleman. I write and sing, engineer and produce.I play keyboards, guitars, bass and drums. Nothing fancy, but in time mostly.I do let other players in the studio. We're the Stokers when we play backup for singer/songwriters.So far I've had Joe Milsom (aka Robert Bobby) and Dave Moyar (aka Dr. Mo) in here to record their songs.More to come... |
