    Artist History
All Six Senses, the forthcoming CD by performing songwriter Robin Renée, is a journey of spiritual awakening. The journey is indeed the destination here, as each piece has its own deep resonance in the greater human experience. Distilled to its essence, the album is much about the nature of love- from open-hearted seeking (“First Sight”), to romantic complexity and longing – (If I could taste you one more time and had to leave my world to chance/ I just might close the door and spin the wheel of fortune – “All Six Senses”), to celebration (“Thursday Morning Afterglow”), and ultimately to the profound urgency of merging with God/dess – (I was bathing in the light/ Felt the sea run down my spine/ I could feel another time/ I could wait here one more night/ But no more, no more/ Gotta be right now – “I’m Coming Down”). These themes, loosely-yet-cohesively interwoven, emerge through a passionate medium of edgy rock, singer/songwriter lyricism and pop sense, and the sonic impact of chant. All Six Senses began to materialize in earnest in January 2002 when world-renowned producer Scott Mathews took a keen interest in the early demos that crossed his path (Scott Mathews has produced, written for, recorded with, or performed with artists as fabulous and diverse as George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Elvis Costello, Barbra Streisand, Semisonic, The Rubinoos, John Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton, John Hiatt, Patti LaBelle, Bonnie Raitt and many more.). Robin and Scott quickly realized that they were a good artistic match; the album was recorded during May 2002 in Scott’s own TikiTown Studios in Mill Valley, CA. The new recording follows In Progress, Robin Renée’s full-length CD debut (2000). In Progress was applauded in much alternative press across the U.S. and the disc reached the Top 10 on the Outvoice! internet music charts. Robin supported the CD with ambitious, self-organized, all-acoustic touring which included shows along most of the East Coast with select cities in the Midwest and California. The interests of Robin Renée are surely diverse. Among the subjects she has studied are English literature, biochemistry, massage therapy, and for a brief time, even Irish Gaelic; much of her long-time focus lies in Eastern and eclectic mysticism. Music has been a constant throughout, and she was in her first “touring” band at the age of ten (The Half Mann Band played in local elementary schools.). At once influenced by the light-hearted new wave style of the 1980’s and the intensity of timeless singer/songwriters, she steadily honed her craft. She wrote and performed with the world-beat rock band Spy Gods while attending Rutgers University, where she was an honor student and an award-winning poet. Later, she fronted the pop band, The Loved Ones. Not limited to a musical format, her essays have appeared in Blessed Bi Spirit: Bisexual People of Faith (Debra Kolodny, Ed., Continuum International, 2000) and That Takes Ovaries!: Bold Females and Their Brazen Acts (Rivka Solomon, Ed., Random House, 2002). Her poetry has appeared in journals including The New York Quarterly, Inciting Desire, OUT/LOOK, and Northeast Corridor. A defining moment of clarity came for Robin early on as a teenager while watching David Bowie on Saturday Night Live; he sang dramatically- in a long, beautiful gown. It was then that she knew that she could do anything and be anyone- on her own unique terms. Always outspoken, Robin Renée stands to expand our collective vision of conscious emotion, sex and gender, and social activism. Her voice continues to be one of artistry, honesty, and a pervasive attention to Spirit. CONTACT: Menage a Music (BMI), P.O. Press Reviews
Whether the dynamic punch of the Patti Smith-like punk-folk rockers “Empire” and “Silent Partner,” the poppy acoustics of “For Today,” … or any of the other fine tracks, Renee never lets the listener down. – Courier News Renée dwells in a soft pop rock tradition, and her sound is sometimes similar to Ani DiFranco, at other times, The Motels. – New York Blade News At the core of it all, Robin is a singer/songwriter with a message. Reminiscent of folks like Joan Armatrading and Tracy Chapman. – Songwriter’s Monthly “Polished, biting songs, featuring lyrics that are both down-to-earth and abstract. Renee’s expressive, idiosyncratic singing and catchy tunes . . .jangly, sometimes hard-driving folk-rock flavor that packs a subtle punch. Poignant and arresting...” --Star-Ledger Robin Renee is a … favorite for the passion of her songwriting… Robin will win you over with her blend of melody and emotion. – Jersey Gaze Menage a Music (BMI) P.O.
