Artist History
Andrew Schwartz has gained respect as an artist of powerful instincts and an equally powerful command of his instrument. Recital engagements have taken Mr. Schwartz to all the major European musical centers and festivals, including Berlin Festwochen, Zurich Tonhaille Busoni festival, Aix-en-Provence, La Roque d'Antheron, Poland's Zuszniki Chopin festival, Ravinia and Mostly Mozart in the United States. Mr. Schwartz creates innovative recital programs, interweaving new works, neglected older works and the classics of the piano repertoire. As an advocate of contemporary classical music he has worked closely with composers Ned Rorem, John Corigliano and Richard Rodney Bennett on several musical projects. Winner of the coveted William Petschek award at the Juilliard School Mr. Schwartz has drawn plaudits from critics both here and abroad. In the words of the New York Times, "Mr. Schwartz' technique is flabbergastering; fiendishly difficult octave passages were as child's play, and his strength is tempered only by an easy poetry." Mr. Schwartz is regularly heard throughout North America as recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician. After making his debut with the Pittsburgh Symphony under the direction of Leonard Slatkin, Mr schwartz has gone on to perform with the symphony orchestras of Indianapolis, Houston, Fort worth, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington D.C.. Abroad Mr. Schwarts has performed with the Krakow Symphony and Wroclaw Philharmonic of Poland, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Singapore Philharmonic and the Stuttgart Philharmonic. In March of 1991 Mr. Schwartz had the honor of playing for the former President of Poland, Mr. Lech Walesa, during his first historic visit to the United States. Some of the artists with whom he has studied and/or had master classes include: Emanuel Ax, Jerome Lowenthal, David Dubal, Alexis Weissenberg, Alicia De Larrocha, Tong-Il Han, Richard Goode, Neil Immelman. His studies have led him to the Royal College of Music in London and the Juilliard School in NYC. |
