Artist description
The word derive means "to obtain especially from a specified source." The source that Derive makes music from is all of the emotional and musical experiences that they go through. The core is made up of two guitars, bass and a drummer. Phil works in real estate, with an internet company, while balancing trading stocks and juggling a family of five. Nick is "taking" some courses locally, teaching guitar and constantly playing and singing. He is also a professional drag racer and gets paid to recite every line from different certain movies. Chris, well what it really comes down to with Chris is, he is the brains and the work horse behind the operation. Without him, the band would fall apart. He drums fairly well too. Then there is Dan. Dan is attending classes at Williams and Mary somewhere down south. Dan is resposible for designing and constructing the bands equiment and instruments. He also mentally composes and transcribes all of their songs and parts. Together, they form a something indescribable. |

Artist History
Nick and Phil started out together playing poolside at Nick's house. That turned into, Chris Carhart and Erik Dial joining them in the eighth grade talent show singing "Glycerine." Having a good time, the fantastic four literally flew into the studio and recorded 24 elaborate songs within 3 hours for 200 dollars.
The natural progression of time found the band making several appearances at Obsessions, a highly respectable and clean nightclub. After finishing another recording that never finished production, bassist, Erik Dial, was lost to the clutches of Ridge Football. The next highlight was recording a somewhat organized self titled CD which had a good response. It was during this time period that Dan Jaeger joined Derive's journey.
Since then, the band has played at Baskin Rockin Ridge's concert thing with Nine Days. As if things couldn't get any better, Derive hit the studio one more time and recorded their latest CD "Beneath the Surface." This CD included piano by Ian McGlynn and catchy well written songs. This of course led Derive to perform at Bruce Springstein's claim to fame, The Stone Pony. Along with gracing that stage, Derive played with rock legends Live at a show at Bucknell.
Recently, thanks to the help of mp3.com, a company Live Unsigned in California believed Derive to have some potential. After contacting the band, Derive went to LA to record a live video and write and record three new songs with an incredibly talented and established producer.
Where it goes from here, we're waiting to hear. |
