Artist History
Singer Steven Greene comes from a family of vocalists, having grown up singing in church from an early age. He sang and played traditional bass in various rock outfits before bringing his style full circle with Underatlas. Says Greene, "When I tell people the band's lineup, they have a hard time picturing how the sound is complete. But once they hear the music, they understand that it's not important how many people are in the band-it's how many people aren't in the band." As a day-to-day vocation, Greene is an Industrial Arts Teacher at the same high school he once attended as an unruly teen in Wilkesboro, NC. Bassist Richard Smith has been making music since age 12, handling guitar duties in adolescent rock bands before switching to bass and embracing technology. He says, "Music is the most powerful art form there is. Certain melodies appeal to different levels of consciousness, and when we listen along a certain 'dimension' we share that space with others feeling the same vibe. It's instantaneous, emotional-and real." Smith also works as a corporate and freelance Art Director, currently on contract with Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut.Gear-Jockey Jim Price is an accomplished guitarist along the lines of Satriani and Vai, having played and composed music most of his life. However, his primary functions in Underatlas are to manage the subtle nuances and electronic aspects of the band's sound. He says, "It's the accents and hidden elements that make a great multidimensional sound. Like stars against a very black night." Price also operates a thriving sound equipment tech service shop, Jim's Pro Audio, in Wilkesboro, NC. |
