Artist History
Remote Planet was founded by journalist, broadcaster and writer Chris Laursen in 1999 as an outlet for satirical jabs at everyday life. Joined by friends Marg Tannahill and Linda Quinton-Ploughman, the Planet grew substantially by the end of Season 1 in the Summer of 2000 with Marc-André Bélair contributing writing and voice talents. The series really took off in Season 2 when Richard Hemphill joined as co-writer and extraordinary voice talent. Richard and Chris split the writing duties, bringing their own unique, quirky views to life on the radio, making Remote Planet certainly one of the most unique programs around. Natasha Abraham joined up near the end of Season 2, and the current Season 3 sees the addition of Shalome Swinamer and Dan Enright, as well as the return of Marc-André. The troupe are currently planning a stage version of the concept, and are pursuing greater things for the show. The clips you hear on mp3.com are only a very small slice of what Remote Planet is. Every episode is unique and different, often with recurring characters like Psycho, Ama Stole, Macon & Augusta Georgia, Indira Mombira and Madison Wisconsin corrupting the listenership. The characters, the show and the themes continue to evolve. |
