Artist History
Threshold was created in 1989, By Original members Mike Katckmark, Jeff Ortwine, and Frank Bartnik. Then in early 1990 Dave Bilou joined the band as the bassist, but in that format the chemistry wasn't quite right. There was some early conflicts as to what direction the band should take. So Dave eventually left the band to pursue other interest. The band still seeking to make an impact on the music scene decided to go ahead and start the writing of an album with hopes that the open slots in their line up would soon fill themselves. And luckily for the band, they soon did.
After a short hiatus, Dave returned to the band as bassist, However, this time He wanted to sing for the band as well. This received some what mixed reactions, as the band wanted a front person more than a singing musician. But soon it was discovered that Dave had a great singing voice, thus he made the transition from bassist to singer. So after some trial and error the band decided to keep Dave on as a singer and to continue on with its search for a bassist.
Being that the band had not yet reached rock stardom, most members still had day job's. and it was at one of these places of employment that Frank ran into Tony Cece, who as Fate would have it played bass. Tony then came into the band taking over bass duties.
In this formation the band flourished. Gaining all kinds of accolades and respect from their peers. They did scores of shows all over southern Michigan. performing at all of the greatest venues.
In 1991 the band began the arduous journey of recording an album. A great undertaking for all those involved, especially since none had any experience in doing this. The band took nearly a year and a half to write, rehearse, and record the album. But in the end it was completely worth it as the band produced what now is affectionately known as the self titled " Threshold" album or the "SnowFlake" album, dubbed that in reference the art work on its cover.
After the Completion of the album the band Invested heavily into promotion, hoping to get it off the ground so to speak. They had a Major CD release party which in hind sight came out fantastic. But at the time, The large expenditure of producing the album along with the large price tag of promotion ended up costing the band more than they could afford. Patients and tempers became lost in the high pressure world of the " Music business". Two weeks after the cd release party, Jeff left the band citing irreconcilable differences between himself and other band members.
The band has had a few more attempts at recreating the magic of the first CD without anthing solid developing as member have persued other interests. The "Snowflake" is the best snapshot in time of this great band and all that it was |
