Artist History Imagine a playground full of overly energetic kids playing and screaming. All of them are chasing each other, playing games, and sliding on the slides, except for one little boy sitting off by himself over on a park bench. Instead of joining in with the other kids, he is making beats on the bench with his hands. This young boy has chosen to do his own thing instead of follow the other kids who are all following each other. This boy will some day grow up to become a musical rebel named, DeShaddow. This 25 year old St. Louis native describes his sound as "Purposely Left Field." Where most of today's artists tend to seek formulaic music to fit mainstream's street format, DeShaddow wanders into the underworld of the creative process. Utilizing sparse chords, deep sea bass lines, and sharp edge drum beats, he displays the courage necessary to change the standards. "I strive to be original in everything I make. My goal is to leave a legacy. I want to be remembered for setting plateaus, not chasing after them." Some of DeShaddow's key influences range from The Artist, to Maurice White of Earth, Wind, and Fire, to gospel legend Walter Hawkins. There is also a Latin feel lingering in DeSh's music. There is a deep tradition of music in DeShaddow's family. His mother sang with a local gospel quartet. His grandfather also was a writer and musician. "My grandfather never got a chance to see his musical visions come to pass. I see this gift as a chance to finish what he started." It seems these days, the trend in music is to sing about money, money, and even more money. But in the blinding light of glitz and glamour, there is a small corner of darkness slowly engaging on this vain gleam. This darkness is DeShaddow, and he will rise until he is noticed.
