Artist History Charlito created the 'Charlito & Friends' home-recording project as a side-bar to his work with emptyquarter. This project consisted of various collaborations with his musical friends. 'In essence this MP3 site is part of a tribute to what became known as 'Charlito and Friends'; a gathering of musical soul-friends which created some of the quintessential music to our most celebratory parties. Charlito And Friends had its inception in July 1999, Wellington, New Zealand. I had just bought a PC with the sole intention of doing some music. As I began experimenting with different sorts of audio programmes strange songs began to emerge. At the start I would find samples that sounded interesting to me and the general outline of a song would begin to form. Then I would overdub my bass parts. Soon Del Spence (Wretched Skinny) began to frequent my 'studio' and we would do projects together. We would come up with a context or a general theme or just a loop and work it from there. The songs as a result have their own distinctive flavour personalised by bass and guitar and Del Spence's vocal expeditions. Near the end of my time in Wellington, before moving to Melbourne, I had also completed a song with Stris (emptyquarter) and one with Drock (ex-Pushkin, emptyquarter).'
