Artist description
Greetings from Planet 10. Planet 10 was an original power pop band that wrote groovy pop songs, colored with tight three part vocal harmonies and loaded with more hooks than a tackle box. Hailing from Philadelphia, PA., they were nominated in 1993 as one of the best unsigned bands in the Delaware Valley by Big Shout Magazine. They combined genres to create a dynamic mix that ranges from powerful and poignant rock to dance grooves and pop with a chiming folksy warmth. The band is no longer together, but live on through these recordings. |

Press Reviews
THE LEADER - November 12, 1992 Ahhh! Now this is pop! The remains of Falling Ushers have renamed themselves Planet 10 and continued on in a decidely perky direction. Cool guitar chime, winsome vocals, tight rhythm, great backing vox, solid songs. It always boggled my mind that the Usher's Memory Fades was never a major regional hit, now I can be further confused if Baby's Losing Her Mind from this tape doesn't score. LASALLE COLLEGIAN - February, 1993 Their sound is thoroughly upbeat and modern, yet it is firmly based in American rock tradition. This is particularly evident in their prominent use of guitars as the driving force... and unmistakably modern sound with a refreshing twist. PHILLY ALTERNATIVE - Carol Schutzbank - Februrary, 1993 Planet 10, formerly the Falling Ushers, may have undergone a name and line-up change, but their sound is essentially the same. The songs on their new demo are solidly pop, with light psychedelic accents, and very catchy. PHILLY ALTERNATIVES - Carol Schutzbank - April, 1994 Planet 10 have crafted a pop pure gem of a CD in the tradition of such bands as the Hollies, The Zombies, The Kinks and the Seekers. The clean, full-bodied production work (courtesy of Al Fichera) is the perfect foil for the band's sound: playful pop with a subtle bite. The sweetest harmonies, psychedelic overtones and eminently catchy hooks are all delivered with a deftly light touch, allowing the songs to float free of encumbrances directly into the brain where they lodge firmly in place courtesy of brisk, emphatic rhythm work. And eve after all this time, the song Round House remains a total fave. Philadelphia's Weekly Newspaper CITY PAPER - Frank Blank - April 1, 1994 ...Planet 10 is able to work up some clever approaches to pop material and top it off with imaginative vocal harmonies. But Planet 10 is also good at coming up with some interesting and intriguing lyrics like the quirky Baby's Losing Her Mind. With songs like the psychedelic-tinged Round House and the unusual structure of Natural Apple Delight, Planet 10 has concocted an enjoyable and unpretentious nine-song recording. THE MUSIC PAPER - March, 1994 Some of the most winsomely endearing pop perfection to come along since The Shoes or Dwight Twilley at their peak. ... these boys write some of the most infectious ear candy going. The disc kicks off with A thousand Ways to Dream, a perky harmonica and harmony driven tune that suonds like it came off a Dave Clark Five compilation album. A sing-along pop masterpiece, a song that in a rational world, would be Number 1 for at least six weeks, Baby's Losing Her Mind, is up next. That classic is followed up with more great pop with Brightest Stars. There are Alternative-Rock hits (Memory Fades, Spiraling Down), three more pop classics (Mr. Universe, Magic Moment, and especially Round House) and a song that would be a natural for a bubbly Snapple commercial, Natural Apple Delight. Jangling guitars, catchy melodies, intelligent and often clever lyrics, appealing harmonies, and great vocals and hooks galore. This professionally packaged CD is brimming with warmth and personality. |
